Johnny and I are halfway through a 30 days of yoga challenge. We've been following the 30 days series over at Yoga With Adriene on youtube. I've tried yoga in the past and never could get into it. But this time, man, where has this been my whole life?!
I guess I've struggled with yoga in the past because I was in more rigid classes where I really couldn't be a beginner. I understand that many yoga classes are not like this, but that has been my experience. With these videos, I'm in my living room not worrying about if my stomach is hanging out or if the teacher is coming over to correct me for the 30th time. I can modify poses as I feel like that day. I can skip some things and do something else instead. I love Adriene's videos because she's all about improv in your practice. I feel like I'm learning more about the flow instead of following a rigid sequence of events like I have in the past.
I've noticed that I becoming stronger and more flexible (well, at least getting back to where I was). Some weight is also coming off of me too, but I'm not sure if its from this or my Whole30 or both. Whatever, I'll embrace it anyways. I'm more amazed at how far Johnny has come in 14 days! He can touch his toes now!
If you're looking for an accessible way to get into the practice of yoga, I highly recommend Yoga With Adriene on Youtube. You won't be disappointed. And with day 30 rapidly approaching, what would you recommend next for a beginner? Let me know in the comments!
PS: My mat is an oldie from Target. I also use yoga blocks for some poses. That's all the equipment I have.
